Vision

The Anita Blake books are written in the first person and as such one sees the world through Anita Blake’s eyes. As her knowledge grows through the series we learn more of the setting, and, as one might guess, some things learned earlier in the series turn out to be inaccurate or flat-out wrong.

The setting we have chosen for this game is quite different from that of the books. Instead of contemporary St. Louis, The Veiled Kingdoms is set in London of 1888.

For these points, as well as for those who have not read all or any of the books, we have tried to describe both the theme and setting in as much detail as a player will need to play on The Veiled Kingdoms with one’s eyes wide open.

What is The Veiled Kingdoms MUSH about?

The Veiled Kingdoms MUSH is about racism, the balance and cost of power, morality and ideology, sometimes sexism and even sex, and especially the veil between the seeming world and the world after dark.

“You better wake up. The world you live in is just a sugar-coated topping! There is anther world beneath it - the real world. And if you want to survive it, you better learn to pull the trigger!” - Blade

Who are the characters and what do they do?

The characters strive to continue their way of life. Most characters are involved in the seedier side of London, in its dark underbelly. Also, in one way or another, the characters are trying to save or benefit themselves or their people.

What, if anything, makes The Veiled Kingdoms MUSH special?

The Veiled Kingdoms MUSH is in a past and alternate version of the Anitaverse that puts the control of the story and its outcome in the players’ hands. Like many games, tVK is not a game concentrated on ROLL-play; it concentrates on role-play with roots in story gaming.

In the hopes of a successful game, we stress communication on an IC and OOC level amongst players and staff.

Influencing Ideals of tVK

The Veiled Kingdoms MUSH exists to satisfy a need for an Anitaverse game where good concepts are realized, played, and appreciated by all. As such, we adopted the tenets necessary to support such a game.

  • There are no mediocre characters.
  • Characters exist to create story, yet stories exist to give characters purpose.
  • Since characters and stories are made and supported by players, who come and go, change, etc., the game’s setting must be flexible to handle development and fluctuations.

The game is like a novel with stories within stories, and in a story, every character of consequence (every character at The Veiled Kingdoms) will lose some and gain some. To that avail, we are not to pretend any character is infallible. Please consider the bigger picture during your role-play, and work with the other players toward a common goal, even if your characters will likely be rivals forever.

Note from Staff

The staff at The Veiled Kingdoms wish to encourage and maintain open dialogue between staff and players. We welcome feedback, both positive and negative, about anything our players determine to be of importance.

If you find a problem, feel free to raise the issue with or without suggesting any solutions. Please let us know why you feel a certain way about a part of the game, and lend as much clarity as you can to an issue as to help us and the other players. The Veiled Kingdoms MUSH is a community, and we strive to work together creatively to have the most fun possible. While in-character situations are often tense (which is good), we all endevour to interact politely and respectfully at the out-of-character level.

The No List

Here are things we will always say no to:

  • Arbitrary teleportation.
  • A cure for lycanthropy.
  • A cure for vampirism (that allows the vampire to go on living after).
  • Scientific (as opposed to magical) diseases that attack lycanthropes.
  • The word 'therian'.
